Package: gradle
Version: 1.5-2
Severity: wishlist

A few weeks ago we had a discussion with the Fedora maintainer of
Gradle in #debian-java. He told us that Fedora uses groovyc to compile
and bootstrap Gradle. I think this method should be considered for the
Debian package too because it is an improvement over downloading a
pre-built binary. Patches and more information can be found at:

It looks like Fedora gave up with Gradle [1], I'm not sure the upgrades
are significantly easier with this approach.

Control: reassign -1 src:gradle
Control: owner -1 !
Control: retitle -1 "gradle: improve bootstrapping"

Hi,

I have started to work on an alternative using Gradle itself to generate
a Makefile that could be used to rebuild Gradle using
javac/groovyc/kotlinc. I'm not sure that this is like the original idea,
but as I could locate an archived copy [1] of the Fedora repository (the
original link won't work anymore) I will take a look to check if there
is anything to salvage from there.

Cheers,
