Package: gdm
Version: 2.20.10-3
Severity: normal

approx. 5 minutes after coming up from suspend, X crashed. Digging through
the logs, I've found the following:

May 26 19:30:47 eee gdm[1663]: WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
May 26 19:30:50 eee acpid: client 1667[0:0] has disconnected
May 26 19:30:50 eee acpid: client connected from 9974[0:0]
May 26 19:30:50 eee acpid: 1 client rule loaded
May 26 19:31:13 eee acpid: client 9974[0:0] has disconnected

Restarting of X resulted in a hang (blank screen and all, I had to resort to
SysRq keys to shut down the system). See Xorg.0.log.old for the log of the
old X that was restarted by gdm and Xorg.0.log for the new X that failed to
start.

Do you have any "vga=" stuff in your kernel command line? That would
explain such craches with KMS.

Cheers,

Indeed, I have vga=6 on the kernel command line.

Why is that a problem?

Cheers, Thiemo

Why is that a problem?
Because it conflicts with the X driver’s handling of the framebuffer.
Ask the X or kernel people for the details.
I'll try without and report back if I see the problem again.

Thanks, Thiemo
